- If you’re completely new to driving, you may need at least 7 to 10 hours of instruction.
- If you’ve already had some practice with a friend or family member, 5 to 7 hours may be enough to refine your skills.

I have just turned 16. How do I start the learner driving process to get my L plates ?
To get your L plates in Australia, you need to pass an online learner permit test, which covers road rules and safe driving practices. You can prepare by studying the official road rules handbook and taking practice tests. Once you pass, you’ll receive your learner permit and can begin taking driving lessons with one of our licensed instructors.
How many supervised driving hours are needed to get my P licence ?
If you are under 21, you must complete at least 120 hours of supervised driving, including a minimum of 20 hours at night.
If you are 21 or older, there is no minimum hours requirement, but you must hold your learner’s permit for at least 6 months.
If you are 25 or older, the minimum holding period is reduced to 3 months.
I recently migrated to Australia. How long can I drive with my overseas licence ?
If you have recently migrated to Australia and are living in Victoria, you can drive with your overseas licence for up to six months from the date you started living in Victoria. If you leave and return during this period, the six months still count from your original arrival date. After this time, you will need to obtain a Victorian driver’s licence to continue driving legally.
